香港会议展览中心三面均被维多利亚港环绕。在香港这个不断发展的城市中，该中心占据着极为显要的位置。由于 SOM 的扩建，该建筑在 1997 年启用后成为会展中心的设计典范。直至今日，该中心依然是一个重要地标。

主要设计元素是独具特色的屋顶，起伏的翼状造型为香港塑造了一个鲜明的形象。这个屋顶铸就了高达 75 英尺、令人叹为观止的拱形天花板，下方是无柱跨度达 80 米的会展大厅。扩建项目包含一系列设施，包括三个展厅、两间剧院、52 间会议室、七间餐厅和各种配套设施。建筑基座四周环绕许多餐厅、商店、画廊及其他公共空间，使中心融入四周热闹的都市氛围之中。
