As one of SOM’s leading technical experts, Carrie specializes in project delivery, construction methodologies and decarbonization. Her work is rooted in a deep understanding of how buildings are put together. Advancing innovative approaches in project delivery, she collaborates directly with clients, engineers, contractors and fabricators to help realize the design vision and minimize environmental impact. She oversees the design and construction quality of projects across numerous sectors, including education, institutional, healthcare, government, and science.
Carrie’s portfolio features several firsts: the Kathleen Grimm School for Leadership and Sustainability at Sandy Ground, the first net-zero-energy school in New York; Cornell Tech, a new applied sciences university on Roosevelt Island designed to bring the academic and private sectors together; and Emory Winship at Midtown, a facility that rethinks cancer care by organizing floors not around equipment or function, but through communities that focus on specific types of care.
Every project gives us an opportunity to apply new insights. The lessons we learn from one building to the next, and the knowledge we leverage by working with countless experts within our practice and in the industry, enables us to continually deliver innovative work—to transform the futures of schools, hospitals, institutions, and more.
Carrie is passionate about mentoring and developing the careers of emerging design professionals. She is the founder of Year One, which she conceived as a career accelerator program for new graduates in architecture, engineering, urban planning, and interior design. She is also a member of the firm’s Talent, Equity, Diversity, and Development Committee. She helped create a recruitment strategy for the firm’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Plan, for which she is developing and strengthening the firm’s relationships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities and an expanded group of institutions. In 2022, Carrie was selected to the Crain’s New York Business Notable Women in Construction, Design, and Architecture list for her creative contributions to the built environment and her work advancing equity at SOM.
