在 SOM 为北京商务中心区（CBD）所作的扩展规划中，提议建立三个以标志性公园和绿荫大道为核心的新城区。快捷的通勤铁路服务可将商务区与北京首都国际机场和北京南站相连，同时新建的有轨电车系统将服务商务中心区内的各个分区。该方案还将以适宜步行的小型街区网络为特色，鼓励人们步行或骑车出行。

该规划的实施将使区域内的能源消耗减少50%，用水量减少48%，垃圾填埋量减少80%。高性能办公楼每年可减少215,000吨的碳排放量，其效果相当于种植1400万棵成年树。SOM 的规划愿景将使中国首都在发展为全球商务中心的同时，肩负起生态环保的责任。
